Mr. Chaib delivers a speech during the work of the third UN conference on landlocked developing countries

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, highlighted from Awaza (Turkmenistan) the efforts made by Algeria in its areas of belonging, to support landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) of Africa, in their development process.

As part of his participation in the work of the 3rd United Nations Conference on the LLDCs, in Awaza (Turkmenistan), the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for the National Community abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, delivered an address during the plenary of this Conference, placed under the theme Driving development through partnerships.

He stressed, on this occasion, that Algeria, as a transit state according to the UN concept in connection with this development issue, provides concrete efforts in its spaces of belonging to support the LLDCs in their development process, as evidenced by its adherence to the major structuring projects of the African continent, such as the Trans-Saharan Road, of the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline and the axial link of the Trans-Saharan optical fiber.

Mr. Chaib also claimed that the challenges faced by LLDCs in achieving their development objectives, such as lack of investment in infrastructure, low technology transfer, insufficient international financial resources, and climate change, could find, in the implementation of the recommendations of this Conference and of the 4th United Nations Summit on Financing for Development, held in Seville from June 30 to July 3, 2025, the means to address these challenges imposed by the specificities of these countries, particularly with regard to the continuation of the reform of the international financial architecture and the promotion of a more inclusive, representative, equitable and effective global economic governance.
