Mrs Mansouri chairs special session on strengthening the multilateral system in addressing peace and security issues

Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, co-chaired, with Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, in Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), the Ministerial Meeting of African-Nordic countries, aimed at discussing the issue of strengthening multilateral system in addressing global peace and security.

The participants emphasized that the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) constitutes a pressing priority aimed at guaranteeing equitable and permanent representation for Africa and addressing all forms of historical exclusion it has suffered, particularly through the completion of the decolonization process in Africa.

The meeting's participants further underlined the importance of activating UN Security Council Resolution 2719 concerning the financing of peace support operations led by the African Union (AU).

They further stressed the need to benefit from other partners' support, particularly the Nordic countries, with a view to strengthening the principle of complementarity between the AU and the UN and promoting African solutions to African problems.
