Mr.Attaf signs agreement relating to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, singed Saturday at the headquarters of the United Nations “the agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction” (BBNJ).

The signing took place at the start of his visit to New York to participate in the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly, the ministry said in a statement.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Elinor Hammarskjold.

This agreement aims to enhance the protection of biodiversity on the high seas and to ensure its sustainable and rational use for the benefit of all humanity.
