The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib attended the Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah to discuss the Zionist war on the Palestinian people and the annexation and deportation plans.

This extraordinary session, convened by brotherly Palestine, the OIC Secretary General, Hussein Ibrahim Taha brought together several FMs of member countries.

This session was an opportunity to tackle the relentless Israeli war on the Palestinian people in the context of the serious and unprecedented developments in the Palestinian cause, and to endorse the reintegration of the Syrian Arab Republic into the OIC.

In his address, Chaib called for a unified Islamic position categorically rejecting calls to deport the Palestinian people, and for the mobilization of the international support needed to keep them on their land.

The Secretary of State reaffirmed Algeria's commitment, under the judicious leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to spare no effort in defending the Palestinian cause, underlining the unceasing diplomatic efforts deployed by our country in support of this legitimate cause, particularly as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

He also called for “pressure to be brought to bear by all possible means to implement all the clauses of the ceasefire agreement to put an end to the shedding of Palestinian blood in the Strip, and to ensure the withdrawal of the occupier from all the territories of the Gaza Strip, urging, further efforts at both the Arab and Islamic levels to speed up the reconstruction of Gaza and block the way to calls to empty the Strip of its inhabitants.

Chaib called for the launch of a genuine political process that will lead to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, based on the two-state solution.

At the end of his speech, Chaib welcomed the return of the Syrian Arab Republic, a brotherly country, to the OIC, calling for “closer ranks to promote this organization.

This extraordinary session invited all OIC member states to support the palpable and sustained efforts made by Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, in support of Islamic causes in general, and the Palestinian cause in particular.
