Mr. Attaf discusses, in New York, with several counterparts from friendly, brotherly countries
The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions on Wednesday, in New York, with several of his counterparts from brotherly and friendly countries, on the sidelines of his chairmanship of high-level meetings scheduled as part of Algeria's presidency of the United Nations Security Council.
In this regard, Attaf met with the Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, Téte Antonio, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia, Peya Mushelenga, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Jeje Odongo Abubakher, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Musa Timothy Kabba, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Goc.
Attaf's discussions with his Angolan counterpart enabled an exchange of views on several issues and files on the African Union's agenda, in preparation for Angola's presidency of this continental organization starting next February.
The Minister of State's meeting with his Namibian counterpart provided an opportunity to examine prospects for giving new momentum to the fraternal relations and cooperation between the two countries and to continue coordination regarding support for just causes in the African continent.
With his Ugandan counterpart, Attaf reviewed ways to achieve more results in terms of economic cooperation, in implementation of the decisions taken by the presidents of both countries in March 2023 in Algiers.
The meeting with the Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister allowed both parties to discuss arrangements to strengthen bilateral relations, within the framework of implementing the decision on diplomatic representation exchange, and continuing coordination in the Security Council within the A3 group.
During his talks with the Foreign Minister of South Sudan, Attaf affirmed that Algeria will continue to work for peace and stability in this brotherly country, from its seat on the United Nations Security Council or in its capacity as a member of the African Union High-Level Ad Hoc Committee on South Sudan (C5).
