Minister Attaf summons the Malian ambassador in Algeria
The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, summoned Thursday the ambassador of the Republic of Mali in Algeria, Mahamane Amadou Maiga, in relation with the recent developments of the situation in the country.
The minister recalled that historically Algeria's contributions to the promotion of peace, security and stability in Mali have always been based on three main principles, from which it has never deviated and will never deviate.
First of all, Algeria's strong commitment to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and national unity of Mali.
Secondly, the strong belief that the peaceful option, to the exclusion of any other, is the only way to ensure peace, security and stability in Mali, irreversibly and sustainably.
Thirdly, and as a result of the first two principles, it is through national reconciliation, and not fratricidal war, that Mali would embark on a joint effort, by all its children, without discrimination and without exclusion, guaranteeing its sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity.
In addition to this reminder, the Foreign Affairs ministry's statement of December 13 was mentioned.
Algeria, through that statement, called all Malian parties to renew their commitment to the implementation of the agreement on peace and national reconciliation, the outcome of Algiers Process, to meet the legitimate aspirations of all the components of our brother Malian people for peace and sustainable stability.
During the audience, Mali's ambassador was told that the latest meetings with the leaders of the signatory movements of the Peace and Reconciliation Accord in Mali, resulting from Algiers process, were perfectly in line with the letter and the spirit of the statement.
In this respect, Attaf expressed the wish that the Malian government, in line with its commitment to the agreement's implementation, joins Algeria's current efforts to give it a fresh impetus.
The minister stressed that the multifaceted and multisectoral relations between Algeria and the sister country Mali make it an obligation to undertake everything to help in taking the path of peace and reconciliation, which are the true guarantors of its security, development and prosperity.
It is in this state of mind that Algeria sees and assumes its role as head of the Monitoring Committee of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, the outcome of Algiers process.
